A BRIEF
HISTORY OF THE
LANAO MUSLIMS PROFESSIONALS
In 1955, the Lanao Muslim Student and Professionals Fraternity,
(LAMUSPROF for Brevity) was organized at the University of Manila in Metro
Manila, by thirty five (35) young and brilliant Maranao Muslim scholars
studying in different universities in Metro Manila, all of whom are coming from
the defunct Province of LANAO ( Now Lanao Del Sur, Lanao Del Norte, cities of
Iligan and Marawi). At the time of its founding, there were only few who
initiated the laudable move because there were few Maranaos who were then
studying in Manila. Most of the organizers were Government scholars granted by
the office of the President the management of the scholarship which was later
transferred to the commission on National Integration under the pioneering
Chairmanship of late Governor Madki Alonto. Its first main office was located
at P. Paredes, Sampaloc, Manila. The names of the organizers are listed in this
directory of members.
The primary aims and objectives in the organization of this
fraternity is to instill in the minds of
all members the meaning and importance of the “Unity, solidarity, camaraderie
and brotherhood among Maranaos”. The fraternity had serves its purpose and
objectives in the same manner as that of the organizations of students from
Luzon, Visayas and other parts of Mindanao.
In 1963, a sub- office of the LAMUSPROF was established in Marawi City,
with the condition that the head of the sub-office shall be called as Chairman.
Frat. Mamosaka Natangcop was the first elected Chairman. In the end of 1960s
and thereafter, acceptance of new members was transferred to Marawi City. From
the time on, the head of Marawi Office was referred to as President.
Due to their understanding accomplishments and achievements as public
servants, the LAMUSPROF have adopted the following as Honorary members: Late
Senator Domocao Alonto, Senator Salipada K. Pendatun, Congressman Rashid
Lucman, Governor Madki Alonto, Congressaman Omar Dianalan, Governor Mohamad Ali
Dimaporo and IBP Delegate Atty. Tocod D. Macaraya became regular member by
resolution of the entire membership because he was active as the regular
members.
As of this time, the total membership of the fraternity zoomed to more
or less EIGHT HUNDRED (800) members.

ITS NATURE AND MEANING
The ESSENCE and ENERGY of our dear LAMUSPROF are to carry and foster the
cohesive unity of the Ulama(s) with the Muslim (Maranao) professionals towing the line to achieve our
objectives, viz: to establish bond-ship of brotherhood that will redound to
unite our people and towards our Islamic faith; and to strive wholeheartedly in
attaining peace and development for our people and for all of us.
The SEAL and EMBLEM of the LAMUSPROF has its unique nature and meaning .
Thus the CIRCLE as wholes- tic container stands for the unending fiber of
brotherhood; the CROWN below the nomenclature is the crescent of moon and
star-representing our assertion for leadership, nobility, honor and worthy
deeds…
As well as the prime authority of our noble purpose imbued in the
LAMUSPROF.
The SEAL with the standing and horizontal lines in EQUALITY amongst us
and which symbolically stand to profess and aspiration to have a government to
foster freedom translated in our efforts and unity in diversity to be fully
exercised. The 1955 in the centerpiece symbolizes our founding year. The
surrounding words… connotes our organization/fraternity name whose members are
from Lanao Sur and Lanao Del Norte, our two(2) component cities of Marawi and
Iligan who all adhere to ISLAM as our religion and way of life.

MISSION
The LAMUSPROF aimed to help and guide its members to become better
Muslims in line with traditional foundation of ISLAM, to be prepared for
gainful living in Islamic way of life and attain success in this World and
hereafter.
WHAT IS LAMUSPROF?
LAMUSPROF stands for Lanao Muslim students and Professionals Fraternity.
It is an organization of Muslim Students and Professionals coming from defunct
LANAO PROVINCE now known as the provinces of Lanao del sur and Lanao del Norte
including the cities of Marawi and Iligan, Mindanao, Philippines.
WHAT DOES FRATERNITY REFERS TO IN ISLAM?
Brotherhood.
WHEN, WHERE AND HOW LAMUSPROF WAS ORGANIZED
LAMUSPROF was organized in the year 1955 at the University of Manila,
Sampaloc by brilliant Muslim students form different colleges and universities
in manila. The same, first office pf the LAMUSPROF was established at P.
Paredes Street, Manila.
WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF ORGANIZING MARANAO STUDENT SCHOLARS?

WHEN DID LAMUSPROF BECAME A LEGITIMATE FRATERNITY!
LAMUSPROF became legitimate after it was registered at the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Manila in the year 1955. Today, The fraternity
has its registry No. CN201431065 CY 2014 after it was officially renewed at
Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). Cagayan de Oro City.
WHEN WAS MARAWI CITY AND LANAO
DEL SUR CHAPTER ORGANIZED?
It was in 1962 the chapter was officially organized at Kamilol Islamic
College now known as Jamiatul Philippines Al-Islamia (JPI) and immediately
after, they were vested by authority from the main office, Manila to recruit students
form kamilol Islamic College now JPI and
from other colleges in Marawi City.
CREATION OF ILIGAN-LANAO DEL NORTE CHAPTER OFFICE
After the reorganization last November 2, 2013, a special meeting was
called and hosted by Vice President for External Affairs Frat Macala held at
Fontana Restaurant at Tibanga, Iligan City. Vital issues were discussed
including the motion of frat Macala that a creation of a sub-office at Iligan
City and Lanao del Norte is necessary. The motion was duly seconded by Frat Hilal
Sangcopan and unanimously APPROVED by ALL members present attended that Lanao
del norte is necessary.
Another motion was presented for the amendments of the constitution and
by-laws of the fraternity. Stating under section 1.3 of article V that Iligan
City and Lanao del norte had its own chapter and office
COMPOSITION OF OFFICERS: ILIGAN CITY AND LANAO DEL NORTE CHAPTER
Under Article V, Section 1 (1.3) officers are: Chapter Governor,
Vice-Governor Director for Internal and External Affairs, Secretary, Treasurer,
Public Information Officer and two (2) Business Managers.
BENEFITS OF AN ACTIVE & IN-ACTIVE MEMBERS
LAMUSPROF members are classified
into active and in-active:
Active members are those who are regularly attending attending monthly
meetings held every last Saturday of the month and pay their corresponding
monthly dues and entitled to all benefits provided in the constitution and
by-laws. In-Active members are those members who seldom attend the regular
monthly meeting and neglect paying their monthly dues for single year who also
do not enjoy benefits and privileges accorded to regular members. As to the
benefits for the regular member,please refer to article IV, section 8(8.2) as
amended
WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN LAMUSPROF?
LAMUSPROF is an organization composed of Maranao Muslims Professionals.
It is the obligation of the Maranaos to
unite and serve the people in Muslim Mindanao, Philippines likewise to help and
Guide their foundation to become a good Muslim, prepare them for a gainful living
under the Islamic of life; and attain success in this world and the day
hereafter and complete submission to ALLAH (S.W.T).
MEMBERSHIP IN THE LAMUSPROF
Any Muslim professionals from the cities of Marawi and Iligan and the
provinces of Lanao Sur and Norte who earned a degree in English or Arabic or
both and at least 21 years of age with no derogatory records and passed the
screening committee are entitled to be a member of the fraternity
(refer to Article IV of constitution and by-laws).
COMMUNITY SERVICES
The fraternity undertakes the following community service programs and
services such as; 1) Observance of Ramadhan. In this, members are donating
rice, money, used clothes and foods for the poor, three days before the fasting
ends (Eidl Fitr); 2) Joining the moon sighting (NIYAAATA) during the last of
Shaaban and the last day of fasting (Eidl Fitr); 3) Yearly coordination with
local and National government in assisting pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah and
4) Act as peace mediator in settling feud (RIDO) among fellow constituents of
which became the standing block for peace and detrimental to UMMAH politically,
economically and spiritually.

TODAY, 2019 YOU CAN FIND US
In the poor areas of Mindanao particularly in the Islamic City of Marawi
who are just recently devastated by the conflict between the ISIS inspired and
the Government forces on May 19, 2017. To respond to the immediate needs of
people affected by horrible war that around three hundred fifty thousand
internally displaced people who are still languishing in different IDPs camps
being scattered in different places in lanao region and some who have emigrated
in Visayas and Luzon. We responded in terms of emergency relief distribution
coming from different organizations being entrusted to us and we responded as
well on small projects that promote conditions of economic and social
independence.
With emergency relief to support those who have been hit hardest by
conflict or natural disasters.
At present LAMUSPROF. Is carrying out development programs to the
Internally Displaced People (IDPs) victims of the 2017 Marawi Siege and the
Moro National Liberation front and Moro Islamic Liberation Front who have just
sign Peace agreement with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and
continues emergency relief actions in the following areas maintaining our neutrality and impartiality without losing
our very own LAMUSPROF mandate based in our constitution and By-laws.

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), to
create public awareness on development and intercultural issues and to train
workers from civil society, associations and local institutions in local and
International cooperation on building peace and development communities and
disregarding extremism. Promote campaign on the critical issues of economic
justice and social development.
WHAT WE DO
Our efforts focus particularly on;
l Mosque and Madrasa building;
l Reconstruction of Mosque being destroyed during the Marawi siege
l Support the orphanage and their education;
l Da’wah for Islamic from different Muslim Communities;
l Livelihood program to conflict affected communities and poor and less
fortunate people;
l Organic agriculture and halal for safe food;
l Medical mission to conflict affected communities;
l Ramadhan food assistance to different mosques;
l Qurbani every idle adha;
l Assists and support widows for their livelihood;
l Mosque memo rising the Qur’an;
l Giving awards to deserving students for Arabic and English language;
l Distribution of emergency relief, clothing to the victims of man made
and natural calamities;
l Advocacy on Human rights in Islam;
l Conflict resolution for RIDO;
l Promoting organic farming and halal foods;
l Advocating peace and development and transformation of once conflict
affected communities for absolute peace through love and care base in Islam;
l Food security, i.e secure and stable access to food resources and not
merely availability of food;
l The promotion of democratic participation by strengthening and
collaborating with local and civil society actors;
l Humanitarian aid and the prevention of natural disasters, through proper
natural resources management and environmental protection;
l Social and physical reconstruction and rehabilitation for a return to an
acceptable standard of living by people affected by conflict and civil strife;
l Support and assistance to vulnerable groups, especially the disabled ans
socially disadvantage youth, with the duel aim of health care and social
integration;
l The development of small enterprises through the provision of services
and collaboration with local micro-finance institution.

FINANCIAL AND OTHER MEANS
Financial resources are condition for guaranteeing the effectiveness and
continuity of any intervention. Due to our many years of experience, as well as
the results achieved, we receive financing from LAMUSPROF members. To these are
the contributions, both financial and other, from support groups and individual
citizens.
